Front Dumbbell RaiseMuscles Worked

The front dumbbell raise isolates your shoulders, aiming straight at the front delts. Your front delts already work in every press, so this is an accessory for adding extra front delt work on top of that.

How to do it

  1. Stand tall holding the dumbbells in front of your thighs, palms facing your legs.
  2. Brace your abs and keep a slight bend in your elbows.
  3. Raise one dumbbell straight out in front of you, palm down, until your arm is around shoulder height.
  4. Pause briefly, then lower it slowly as you start raising the other arm.
  5. Keep alternating until both arms have done the same number of reps.

Form tips

  • Keep your torso still, since leaning back to get the weight up shifts the work away from your shoulders.
  • There's no need to go much above shoulder height, which mostly brings in your traps.
