Best Quad Exercises13 Picks, Ranked

Your quads are the four muscles on the front of your thigh. All four straighten the knee, and one of them, the rectus femoris, also helps lift the thigh at the hip. That makes squats, leg presses and lunges the base of quad training, since they bend the knee deeply under load. Leg extensions isolate the knee-straightening job on its own. Keeping your torso upright and letting your knees travel forward tends to shift more of the work onto the quads.

The list

The list mixes barbell, dumbbell, machine and bodyweight options. Pick one or two from the top as staples, such as Barbell Squat or Leg Press. Then add a variant for a different angle or for one leg at a time, like Dumbbell Lunges or Leg Extensions. Squats and lunges also train your glutes, so count them there too. Progress over the weeks with small jumps in weight or a few extra reps, and keep your depth the same so the numbers compare.
